A Bird’s Eye View of Nome SchoolhouseFor millennia, people have been fascinated with birds. They’ve symbolized everything from hope to peace to wisdom. It’s no wonder: what’s more magical than these beautiful creatures? They not only dominate the skies but also the forest, prairie, rivers, and lakes.

Since I was a child, I’ve loved birds. Needle felting was a way for me to enjoy them up close. Plus, there are so many gorgeous species to choose from! Here in North Dakota, we have everything from sparrows to grouses to meadowlarks to whooping cranes! And of course, the adorable ducks that populate our lakes and ponds. (Especially in springtime!)

Nome Schoolhouse Birding Retreat | April 30, 2022I’m excited to announce that you can come enjoy Nome’s beautiful birds, both living and felted, at our inaugural Birding Retreat at the Nome Schoolhouse! Local avian experts from Audubon Dakota will guide you on a lovely morning of birdwatching. Then, you’ll join me for a fun needle felting workshop where you can make your very own duck friend.

The retreat is happening in April, and I hope you’ll join me and our companions from Audubon Dakota for this celebration of our feathery friends. You can purchase your tickets here.

This is one of several educational/creative events that we’re hosting at Nome Schoolhouse, which is a marvelous venue surrounded by North Dakota’s natural beauty. If you’re a fan of both wildlife and fiber arts, like me, you’ll be thrilled to know that we’re also going on “safari” with an elephant felting workshop and tour of our fiber mill!

I know it’s a lot — time to stock up on felting needles!

Can’t make it out here for these wildlife excursions? As always, I welcome you to join our virtual community through the Needle Felting Academy. A membership gets you discounts on many of my animal kits.

Let your felting talents soar this spring with some bird-inspired crafts!
