A Nome Away From Home

There’s nothing quite so refreshing as a quiet, creative weekend… breathing in the fresh air, enjoying pleasant weather, and gazing out onto a beautiful landscape while doing your favorite crafts. I feel so blessed to have such a lovely place to work on my felting projects. It truly nourishes the soul to simply relax and be mindful.

When Chris Armbrust and I restored the Nome Schoolhouse, we wanted to share that experience with everyone. In today’s hustle-and-bustle world, we understand and cherish the importance of a soothing, inspiring space. The Nome Schoolhouse could be a destination for escape as well as education. Plus, it would be a dreamy place to work on our businesses!

Now, about a year after we completed the restoration, we’re regularly hosting fiber arts retreats, special events, and our new Nome Eweniversity. We’ve witnessed the joy of class reunions, anniversary parties, and weddings. The year 2022 has already been off to an amazing start, and I’m so proud to see Nome Schoolhouse fulfilling Chris’ and my vision. (We’ve even got school pride hoodies!)

I’d even say it’s surpassed our vision in some ways. We’ve discovered that it’s the perfect place to share our love of animals, teach people about conservation and sheep-rearing, and treat people to some delicious food. (My daughter Libbie is an extremely talented chef who cooks all our Nome Schoolhouse meals from scratch!)

If you haven’t had a chance to make it out here for one of our events, don’t worry. We have plenty of exciting retreats and classes on the calendar. However, you don’t need to wait! Sometimes, you just want to get away for a few days…and you can do that anytime here at the Nome Schoolhouse. It includes a boutique hotel with comfy rooms and plenty of space to work on your projects. (Bonus: You can enjoy some of Libbie’s belly-warming food!)

So, here’s your official invite to come hang out with us. Book your crafty weekend at the Nome Schoolhouse. Breakfast included, dogs welcome, and BYOC — bring your own crafts! If you’ve got some knitting or crochet to do, we have beautiful natural yarns from our Dakota Fiber Mill. Learn how to dye your wool or yarn yourself. And of course, be sure to pack all your felting projects!

The Nome Schoolhouse has become an incredible destination for creativity, relaxation, and celebration. It fills me with such joy to see its growth. I hope you’ll come and see it for yourself!

If you’d like to honor a loved one or a favorite organization, you can leave your legacy at the Nome Schoolhouse with an engraved brick. We’re honored to be a registered 501c3, so all contributions are tax-deductible.
