You know those animal shows that take you on a journey through the rainforest, the ocean, the plains, and all the different topographies? I’ve always been so fascinated with them, especially the plains. Watching the elephants stampede, the tigers stalk their prey, and the giraffes graze the treetops is utterly awe-inspiring.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever take a safari, so I decided to create one instead. In 2022, we hosted our first safari retreat. Four students-turned-friends traveled to Nome for a week of bonding, adventures, and fiber arts aligned with life in the wilds. We needle-felted a majestic elephant, giving each attendee a bit of the wild to take home.
It was an incredible experience for all of us and made me want to do it again!
That’s why this September, at the Nome Schoolhouse, we’re hosting another week-long felting safari retreat and we’d absolutely love to have you join us! This year’s retreat will take place September 1-8 at the Nome Schoolhouse. You’ll stay in one of our uniquely designed guest rooms, eat specialty meals cooked by our chef, and will experience exciting adventures around Nome such as hiking, canoeing, and more.
Of course, there will be plenty of safari-themed needle felting. Instead of felting an elephant this year, we’re going to up the stakes and felt a giraffe! (UP the stakes…up….giraffe…long neck…get it?)
I just cannot wait for the retreat this year. My heart was so full after the last one and I am definitely ready for it again. Needle-felting is a relaxing and powerful art that brings people together, which is why I love hosting these needle-felting retreats. If you’d like to join us on our walk through the wildside in September, registration is open now!
For those who can’t make it but would like to experience just a bit of what the retreat has to offer, check out the Bear Creek Felting shop! Join our Academy to be able to purchase the Advanced Zebra course kit, the Advanced Baby Elephant course kit, or buy all the supplies you’ll need to make a hippo or bison, and create your own little safari at home.
Safari time will be here before you know it. So, start watching those plains documentaries and get ready for the safari of a lifetime in North Dakota!
