July is an enjoyable season to be on a farm. The lambs are growing beautifully, and were weaned last week. Thanks to abundant rainfall the pastures continue to look good. The boys are in the process of taking out old falling down fence in the West pasture and putting in new so that the sheep can safely graze out there as well.
We have added some new sheep to the fiber flock as well. I have always loved our Romney’s but have developed a need for different types of wool for my felting business. The Blue Faced Leicester sheep were added a couple of years ago and we had our first BFL lambs born here this spring. We added one new BFL ewe this year. I have been wanting to add Wensleydales for a long time and finally had that opportunity this summer. We now have 3 Wensleydale sheep to start that flock. The need for new fenced in pastures will become real this fall when we need several different breeding pens!
