A Fiber Vacation
My daughter Libbie and I took a little vacation/business trip this last week to the Black Hills Fiber Fair in Rapid City, SD. We got there a day early so that we could enjoy the Badlands National Park and Custer State Park. I worked for 2 years in the Badlands National Park right after college, so I love to go back there. I have always loved Custer State Park especially the wildlife.
After exploring the Black Hills on Thursday we set up our booth at the fiber fair and then took a Saori weaving class with Chiaki and Dan Brien. Libbie and I had so much fun in this class. We were able to weave with many colors and textures and best of all we didn’t need any technical skills. 🙂
The Fair started on Friday and ended on Sunday. We made many new fiber friends. Our booth neighbors were MJ Yarns and Cowgirl Yarns. Jonathan and Tyler of MJ Yarns, Lafayette, CO hand dye yarn and roving in a beautiful and bright variety of colors. They gave me some roving in their Dragon Colorway and I made a dragon. In the end they went home with a little needle felted dragon and I came home with a bunch of roving. 🙂 Lori Kirk of Cowgirl Yarns, Laramie, WY was fun to visit with and get to know. She has a store where she carries Yarns, looms, yarn bowls, knitting needles, project bags as well as other fiber related gifts. Across the way was Paula Survilla of KnitBaahPurl, Waverly, IA she has the cutest Collection of Whimsical Images, Cards, and More Featuring Sheep, Wool, and Sheep who Knit.
I sure hope we meet up with all these wonderful fiber people again at a future fiber event.
I was able to work on several Bear Creek Bunnies while vending at this event. I listed them today in my Etsy shop.
