It’s winding down to opening day, and we have a host of activities and events lined up for our guests for the entire weekend surrounding launch day. If you’ve been following our blog and our EweTube series, you would have been journeying with us as we renovate the 100-year-old Nome Schoolhouse into a modern Fiber Arts Retreat Center School. Renovations are almost 100% complete, and we are preparing for our official opening in July.
The events surrounding the Nome Schoolhouse grand opening will occur between July 1st and July 4th. Yes, we’ll be having our very own special 4th of July celebrations and everyone is invited. We’ll kick off our grand opening with a small private ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday. Key stakeholders and other specially invited guests will be there. You can look out for those pictures on our social media accounts. We may even go live. Later, we will host our Thirsty Thursdays launch party from 5-9pm in the gym area. We have live performances lined up with good food and good vibes. Beginning on Thursday as well, there’ll be an open house every day during the daytime to allow our visitors to get acquainted with the venue.
So far, we’ve had a few visitors who have already toured the center and participated in our classes and other events since we’ve started our renovations. As we get closer to opening day, however, we have paused all tours to make way for the grand reveal on July 1st. All our guests will be able to tour the rooms and the entire compound, including the camping area, during opening weekend. You’ll also be able to see some of our sheep and alpacas in pens all around the venue. Feel free to stop and say hello to them, and pet them.
Of course, we can’t have a grand opening without a fancy dinner. This will be held on Friday evening, and we’ll be serving a five-course wine pairing meal. So, get your outfits and taste buds ready. Tickets for our Grand Opening Dinner are now available. Find out more and get yours here.
On Saturday, I’ll be there during open house throughout the day. So, I’ll be available to talk needle felting with anyone and to show you around the store and our needle felting products. We’ll still be accepting members for our needle felting courses during this time. So, all interested individuals will be able to sign up via Bear Creek Needle Felting Academy to secure their spots. Whether you’re a beginner or intermediate, we have a kit and course that you will enjoy. This year’s summer sampler kit includes a variety pack of vibrant summer colors for needle felting, which means there’s a wide range of needle-felted crafts that can be made using this kit. Last year we made beach balls, and that was pretty fun. So, you can definitely look forward to more fun projects using our July 4th summer sampler needle felting kit.
Once you sign up, we’ll provide you with all the tools you need. So, all you need to do is show up prepared to get your creativity flowing. We will continue to host weekly classes during weekdays and on the weekends. During busy periods, we anticipate hosting weddings on the weekends, so we will still try to schedule classes once a month on a weekend.
We’ll close the curtains of our grand opening with a 4th of July celebration in true Independence Day style on Sunday. There will be live music and entertainment as well as food and drinks. So, get your tickets and be there from 6-8pm. We’ll end the night with a free Nome community fireworks show at dark. So, we look forward to welcoming and sharing with all our Nome neighbors.
Our opening weekend activities are suitable for the entire family, except for Thirsty Thursdays and during bar hours when alcoholic beverages will be served. Thirsty Thursdays is actually booked all the way up to August. So, be sure to add that to your calendar and come on out. The gift store, which has everything for needle felting projects as well as souvenirs, will be opened as of opening weekend. Opening hours will be posted on the Nome Schoolhouse website. The gym area will be available for booking events for August 1, 2021, and beyond.
