I am so very thankful for my virtual community! I never dreamed that I could work with so many creative souls from all over the globe yet stay right here on the farm. The wonders of technology allow me to teach, connect, and create through my online courses, EweTube channel, and Bear Creek Academy. Yet I also get pulled back to the community and the longing to gather people together to work on their art.
So, a while back, I partnered with my friend, Chris Armbrust of Dakota Fiber Mill, and we embarked on the Nome Schoolhouse renovation to create a space to share our love of the fiber arts. We teamed up to buy the 100-year-old schoolhouse with a vision to create a haven for “makers and doers” under the name Shepherd Industries, LLC.
Located in Nome, ND, on a pastoral setting, the Nome Schoolhouse will be a mecca of classes and retreats with an emphasis on fiber arts, our passion! There will be a retail store, fiber processing mill, and fiber herd on-site so that visitors can learn the entire process in a hands-on experience.
I am proud to call this area home and thrilled to feature and promote local artisans. Chris’ wool has always played a role in the Bear Creek story, and we are equally passionate about this area, our sheep and fiber arts!
If you’ve created from one of my kits, then you likely have touched Chris’ work. Equally, the needle felting creations are a beautiful way to show off Dakota Mill’s spun wool. Art is so much more than the finished product!
