My Second Annual Needle Felting Safari: Crafting, Friendship, and Wildlife at Nome Schoolhouse

by | Sep 14, 2023

Picture this: a week at the Nome Schoolhouse, nestled in the heart of breathtaking historic beauty, surrounded by eight talented individuals eager to explore the intricate world of advanced needle felting. This was the essence of the second annual Needle Felting Safari I hosted at the Nome Schoolhouse. Together, we embarked on a journey to create exquisite giraffe sculptures while enjoying getting to know new like minded friends.

A Unique Retreat Experience:

The Needle Felting Safari at Nome Schoolhouse is unlike any other crafting workshop. Last year, we dedicated four days to crafting majestic elephants, and this year, we delved into the world of graceful giraffes. With an entire week at our disposal, we had the luxury of diving deep into the art of felting. But that’s not all – my team at the Nome Schoolhouse and I decided to spice things up.

Diverse Activities:

In addition to the creative process of needle felting, this year’s safari offered a diverse array of activities to enrich the experience.

We explored the stunning natural landscapes surrounding Nome on invigorating hikes, embarked on kayaking adventures, indulged in relaxing massages to unwind, and savored the flavors of the region with a visit to a local winery. These activities added a unique dimension to our safari, creating a truly unforgettable adventure.

Friendships and Bonding:

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the Needle Felting Safari is the connections forged among participants. This year, we had eight amazing individuals joining us from California, Michigan, Colorado, Minnesota, and North Dakota. Despite our diverse backgrounds, we quickly became a close-knit group, united by our shared passion for needle felting. The camaraderie and mutual support we experienced made our time together even more enjoyable.

A Luxurious Retreat:

At Nome Schoolhouse, we spare no effort to ensure comfort and relaxation. Each student enjoyed the privacy of their own room and bathroom, guaranteeing a peaceful and rejuvenating stay. The culinary delights prepared by our talented Chef Libbie were a highlight of the trip, catering to all tastes and preferences. This retreat truly encompasses the “all-inclusive” concept, taking care of every detail to make the experience exceptional.

Needle Felting Mastery:

Under my guidance, students embarked on an exciting journey to master the art of needle felting. Many of them initially doubted their ability to create a giraffe as intricate as my own creations. However, with careful instruction, support, and personalized guidance, they were pleasantly surprised by the remarkable results of their sculptures. Each student returned home with their very own completed giraffe, a testament to their newfound skills and dedication.

Future Safaris:

The overwhelming success and enthusiasm of our second annual Needle Felting Safari have paved the way for future adventures. Next year, from August 30th to September 6th, 2024, we will be focusing on crafting the elegant Oryx. Due to popular demand, we are also considering offering another felting safari in May 2024, featuring the beloved elephant sculpture. Given the buzz surrounding these events, spots are expected to fill up rapidly, so I encourage early registration.

The Needle Felting Safari at Nome Schoolhouse is not only a dream come true for me but also a remarkable opportunity for craft enthusiasts to expand their skills, build lasting friendships, and immerse themselves in the beauty of Nome’s surroundings. With each safari, the retreat becomes richer, more vibrant, and more unforgettable. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this incredible journey in 2024 – reserve your spot today and prepare for an adventure you’ll treasure forever.
