Make October “Wooltober” with Daily Needle Felting
October is my favorite season—the crisp air, cozy sweaters, and trees dressed in fiery autumn colors. It’s also the perfect time to cozy up with some wool and your felting needles! This year, let’s make it Wooltober—a month dedicated to daily needle felting! Felting every day is one of the best ways to improve your skills, and it’s also a wonderful way to relieve stress.
2. Keep Your Materials Close at Hand
Having a small stash of wool and your favorite needles ready makes it easy to say yes to a quick felting session. You’re more likely to create consistently when everything is within reach.
3. Start Small and Simple
Don’t feel like every project has to be huge or perfect. Tiny pumpkins, leaves, or small animal heads count! Small, daily projects build your confidence, speed, and technique over time.
4. Focus on the Process, Not Perfection
Set a timer for 5–15 minutes and just play with your wool. Let go of expectations. Felting is as much about enjoying the process as it is about the finished piece.
5. Connect With Other Felters
Community makes creativity more fun! Join the Bear Creek Felting Academy to share your work, get feedback, and participate in friendly contests. Seeing other felters’ projects can inspire new ideas and motivate you to keep going.
6. Share Your Creations
Whether on social media or within the Academy, sharing your work connects you to a larger community of creative people. It’s motivating, encouraging, and can even spark new friendships!
Why Felting Every Day Matters
Daily practice is the secret to getting better at felting. Every little bit of time you spend poking wool shapes your skills, builds muscle memory, and increases your confidence. Plus, the repetitive motion of needle felting can be incredibly calming—making it a perfect stress-relief activity during busy or overwhelming days.
This Wooltober, let’s embrace the season, pick up our needles, and celebrate every little wooly creation. Make a tiny project, share it, enjoy the process—and watch your felting skills grow while your stress melts away!
