A New Habit for Harvest TimeSince ancient times, autumn has been a season of abundance and transformation…but also renewal and creativity. You can feel it in the air as it gets nice and crisp, like everything is settling in as it should be. Plus, it’s hard not to be inspired as the leaves turn such beautiful colors!

Fall is lovely on the farm. Our flock is bulking up their fleece to prepare for winter. We’re winding down from summer and enjoying the last bit of pleasant weather. It’s just cool enough to make you want to snuggle up with your crafts! And with the holidays just around the corner, there’s no better time to form a needle-felting habit.

This year, our fall needle felting bundle contains materials for four pumpkins and one friendly turkey. I absolutely love choosing our best orange, red, and brown wool for these projects!

Fall is traditionally associated with the harvest, especially of root vegetables and gourds.  Who doesn’t love pumpkins for their unique shape and bright color? Needle-felting a pumpkin is fairly simple. It’s easy to get carried away and felt a whole pumpkin patch! These also make great gifts for friends and family who enjoy decorating for fall. (As always, Needle Felting Academy members get a discount on these kits!)

You may be wondering… why are turkeys a symbol of autumn? It’s partly because they tend to be a key part of the Thanksgiving feast. Plus, they share colors with the turning leaves! Wild turkeys are also very active during fall as they forage for falling berries and nuts. They’re a visually stunning symbol of the changing seasons!

You can needle-felt your very own turkey friend who will be safe from hunters. Position him amidst miniature foliage, acorns, and persimmons for a more authentic decoration!

So as the weather cools off, head indoors and start your fall needle-felting docket. Whether you’re making gifts or adding to your own collection, you may wish to revisit some past Academy kits. You can find additional materials here.

If you’re not an Academy member, fall is a wonderful time to start your felting hobby!

This creative, mindful season is also a great time to elevate your skills — or even learn a new craft! Imagine needle-felted designs on pillow covers or as unique necklaces or earrings. I’ve curated a list of amazing craft blogs here.

And please do share your fall projects with me. I would love to see them! Tag me on Instagram at @prairieshepherd.
