After the stress of the past couple of years, I hope you’re finding 2022 to be more restorative and relaxing. Personally, I’m making a commitment to spending more time being creative and enjoying my family. Let’s be honest, many of us stayed plugged into our devices while we were cooped up. I know it’s ironic to say this on the Internet, but it’s time to UN-plug!
This year, I challenge you to step away from your phone and computer. Set aside some no-tech times and indulge in some simpler activities. My favorite, of course, is needle felting! It’s the perfect way to enjoy some family togetherness, especially when you’re stuck indoors. No more sitting around with everyone staring at screens. With needle felting, you can explore your creativity and give your eyes — and minds — a much-needed break from social media and the Web.
There’s a reason they call it “mindless scrolling.” When you’re idly browsing social media, you’re not focusing or engaging with anything. You’re seeking little bursts of dopamine. That’s what social media is designed to do!
By contrast, any sort of crafting is mindful, not mindless. You’re sustaining your focus on a single activity, yet it’s not highly demanding of your energy. This allows you to relax while generating some creative theta waves.
I find needle felting especially helpful for achieving mindfulness because it’s a careful, repetitive activity. You can chat with friends and family while doing it, listen to music, or enjoy some nice daydreaming. It’s such a nice departure from the daily stresses of regular life! I found that needle felting revealed my creative side. It is a crucial part of my self-care, and I believe it could be for you as well.
Needle felting is an inexpensive hobby that anyone can start — even if you have zero experience with crafting. It’s easy and enjoyable. That’s part of what makes it the perfect way to unplug and unwind!
I personally love to felt animals, but virtually anything is possible. Each of your friends or family members will find their own unique inspiration for their needle felting projects — that’s part of the fun! And when you join my Needle Felting Academy, you’ll get dozens of kits and courses for all sorts of creatures and objects. My newest one is an adorable duckling, perfect for springtime!
I hope I’ve inspired you to start a new mindfulness practice/crafting hobby with your friends and family. To get started, pick up a starter kit, fiber sampler, and felting needle bundle, and you’ll be ready to begin your felting journey!
