There’s nothing like being part of a crafting community. Some of my dearest, longest friendships have been built around a love for all things crafts and creativity!
In North Dakota, we’ve kind of got it good in that way. Whether it’s farming, building, producing, or even making fiber, the locally sourced, homegrown mentality is just in our blood.
So, it’s sort of easy to find other people who are obsessed with working with their hands, the same people who can’t wait to see a project go from nothing to something beautiful, and those who enjoy making the most of all of our local resources.
I understand that not everyone lives in this kind of community. But, here’s the good news. With the internet, you still have the opportunity to find YOUR people! Isn’t that amazing?
With the click of a mouse, you can meet new friends, ignite your passion, or perfect your crafts. It’s that easy! If you’re ready to start needle felting, you don’t have to search far and wide. Here are a few digital resources you can use to start your journey.
Youtube
Really, what can’t you learn on Youtube!? I think the platform is a great way to dip your toes in the needle felting pond. Some needle felting Youtubers might give you step-by-step tutorials while others will simply show a timelapse of their project from beginning to end. Both are valuable! When you get to watch the entire needle felting process, you can quickly see whether it’s a craft for you.
Beyond the actual process of needle felting itself, you can also learn about needles, wool, and even fiber—all are valuable tools to have as a needle felter!
Blogs
There are some incredible blogs out there that can give you a crash course on all things needle felting, from how to punch the needle, where to buy your wool, tips on creating animals, or even craft ideas for kids!
What I love most about blogs is that many needle felting bloggers are very responsive. That means if you have a burning question about their article, drop a comment at the bottom of the blog, and they’ll probably answer it!
Here at Bear Creek, I’m constantly updating the blog with tips, tricks, and tools to help you needle felt. So be sure to drop in every once and a while to see what we’re up to!
Craft Communities
Go to Facebook and type “crafting group” (or something similar) in the search bar, and what do you find? There are loads of free online communities you can join with crafters of all kinds who are willing to help you along the way.
Sometimes, crafting isn’t just about the finished project. It’s about the process. Having a group of crafters you can bounce ideas off of is key. Don’t underestimate the power of community in bringing joy to your life…and your crafts!
