I don’t know about you, but I find that having the perfect tool for the task makes anything easier and more enjoyable. Needle felting is pretty simple in that not much is needed to get started, but like anything, it draws you in!

The basics

It’s true, to get started you only need a felting needle or two and some great wool. I do most of my felting with a 36 (that’s the needle size), but for detail or smaller sections, I also use a 38.

As for wool, my favorite is Romney Wool from our sheep here at Bear Creek. We have been raising sheep since 2005 focusing on raising animals that have quality wool that is perfect for needle felting.

Going Beyond

Sometimes I spend hours each day needle felting, so the needle can be a little tough on my hands. Since I wasn’t about to curtail my hobby, I came up with a solution – putting the needle in a pen. Check out how I do that here. It’s easier on my hands which means I can create even longer! If you’d rather purchase a holder, we have those too.

You might also want to add a needle felting case to your supplies. The leather is perfect for keeping the needles safe from being bent while also keeping you safe from their business ends. When we invest in good tools, we want to take care of them.

I love working on these cushions. They are cozy and comfortable and let you go for hours, cushioning your hands as you go. And don’t forget, if you’re an annual member of my Academy, you get a discount!

Perfect for gifts!

If you have someone who is also needle felting with you – or maybe someone you want to get started – supplies are perfect gifts! Sometimes there are things we wouldn’t buy for ourselves, but when gifted with them we swoon! You can give entire kits or specialized accessories to make her hobby even more enjoyable. Give a multi-needle holder or a cushion to make it easier on her hands. And you’ll never go wrong gifting needles to a needle felter!

The ultimate gift would be The Bear Creek Needle Felting Academy so she could receive the support and direction to thoroughly enjoy the process of needle felting with the right materials and tools, plus many time-saving secrets! Or maybe this is a gift you’d rather give yourself? Regardless it’s a great way to improve your skills and deepen your love for needle felting!
